SANCTUARY READY · ADVANCED CATALOGUE

The deep layer behind the clean page.

This is where Sanctuary keeps the detailed domain map, archive list, distribution rules and drive-build logic. Ordinary users do not need to navigate this every day.

~12 GB · Kiwix / Wikipedia · 2026-06

Open-licensed Wikimedia content; retain archive attribution and licence metadata.

▥English Wikipedia — Full text, no images

Open-licensed Wikimedia content; retain archive attribution and licence metadata.

▥English Wikipedia — Full with images

The richest standard English Wikipedia ZIM, including images. Best suited to larger SSDs and permanent Nodes.

~115 GB · Kiwix / Wikipedia · 2026-02

Open-licensed Wikimedia content; retain archive attribution and licence metadata.

▥Wikisource — English primary texts

Historical documents, literature, speeches, laws and other source texts. Complements rather than duplicates Wikipedia.

~11 GB · Kiwix / Wikisource · 2026-08

Mixed public-domain/open-licensed source texts; archive metadata governs individual works.

▥Wiktionary — English

Large offline dictionary, etymology and language reference.

~8.5 GB · Kiwix / Wiktionary · 2026-08

Open-licensed Wikimedia content; retain archive attribution and licence metadata.

▥Wikibooks — Open textbooks

Open textbooks and practical learning material across science, computing, language and other subjects.

Catalog-dependent · Kiwix / Wikibooks

Open-licensed Wikimedia content; resolve the newest archive through the Kiwix catalogue before imaging a drive.

▥Wikiversity — Courses & learning

Structured courses, learning projects and educational material for independent study.

Catalog-dependent · Kiwix / Wikiversity

Open-licensed Wikimedia content; resolve the newest archive through the Kiwix catalogue before imaging a drive.

▥Project Gutenberg — Book library

A large literature and historical-book collection. Suitable for archive-class drives only after redistribution rights review.

Catalog-dependent / large · Kiwix / Project Gutenberg

Project Gutenberg focuses on US public-domain status and has separate trademark/licence terms. UK paid redistribution requires rights review.

▥iFixit — Repair knowledge

Offline repair guides can materially improve household and community resilience when replacement supply chains are disrupted.

Catalog-dependent · Kiwix / iFixit

iFixit content is CC BY-NC-SA. Keep it out of paid Sanctuary media unless permission/commercial licensing is obtained.

▥Wikivoyage — Offline travel/geography reference

Destination, transport and place information useful for geography/reference; never a substitute for current emergency routing.

Catalog-dependent · Kiwix / Wikivoyage

Open-licensed Wikimedia content; current travel conditions may be stale when offline.

Rights & distribution matrix

Important because a community Node and a paid Sanctuary USB do not necessarily have the same legal content set.

§Wikimedia / Kiwix archives

Wikipedia, Wikisource, Wiktionary, Wikibooks, Wikiversity and Wikivoyage packaged as offline ZIM archives.

Open / commercial use possible with licence compliance

Individual Wikimedia licences/attribution still apply; preserve licence metadata and attribution.

Packaging: Kiwix ZIM

Official source ↗
§Kolibri offline learning

Offline-first learning platform and content channels covering K-12, STEM, public health, coding and life skills.

§iFixit repair guides

High-value repair guidance for devices and equipment.

Non-commercial only

iFixit content is CC BY-NC-SA. Do not bundle into a paid Sanctuary USB/product without permission or a suitable commercial licence.

Packaging: offline HTML simulations

Official source ↗
§Project Gutenberg

Large public-domain-focused literature and historical-book collection.

Rights review before redistribution

Rights are US-centred and the Project Gutenberg trademark has separate terms. UK redistribution must be rights-checked work-by-work or handled conservatively.

Packaging: Kiwix ZIM / individual ebooks

Drive build procedure

The resolver should make storage claims from current file sizes, not old screenshots or estimates.

  1. Resolve current approved archive URLs from the official Kiwix catalogue.
  2. Measure remote archive size before selecting optional content.
  3. Add required content first, then optional archives in priority order until the profile budget is reached.
  4. Keep 10% of labelled drive capacity unused for indexes, future archive growth and user files.
  5. Download from official direct/torrent sources and keep published checksum files.
  6. Verify the drive and record its manifest, build date, source versions and licences.
  7. Never mark a drive complete if a required archive failed to download or verify.

Knowledge integrity rules

Preserving a file is not enough; its source and limitations must survive too.

  • Keep the Sanctuary Field Manual independently readable without Kiwix.
  • Use official archive sources, torrents and published checksums instead of repackaging huge third-party binaries through Sanctuary hosting.
  • Measure current archive sizes before claiming that a storage profile fits, and keep headroom for updates.
  • Keep archive source, version, size, licence/attribution and verification date visible.
  • Full Wikipedia makes the themed Wikipedia History subset unnecessary on larger vaults, but Wikisource remains valuable because it adds primary-source texts.
  • Historical material should preserve multiple perspectives and provenance rather than presenting one Sanctuary-authored narrative as settled history.
  • Offline reference material may be stale. Time-sensitive medical, travel, legal, conflict and emergency information must visibly show that limitation.
  • Separate paid-media content from non-commercial-only or rights-review collections.
  • Do not place personal household plans or private messages inside a public/shared Knowledge Vault image.

Non-commercial, mixed-rights and foreign public-domain collections require licence review before Sanctuary redistributes them on paid media. Offline snapshots are not substitutes for current emergency, medical, legal or travel information.
